Getting The Career You Want

How to Get The Career You Want?

From the desk of Anthony Buchalka.

Well that's a great question. Let's discuss that right now shall we?

Are you doing work that you enjoy or do the thought of spending the next several years at your job leaving you feeling stressed, lonely, or sad?

You are not alone if you feel this way……

Plenty of people don’t enjoy what they do. However, not many people seem to do anything about it. They enjoy the safety and comfort their job gives them and though the long for something more, they fear change.

But, as you know career success is much more than just getting a good salary isn't it?

It doesn't have to be this way. It is possible to make money doing what you love to do.

All it really takes is some goal setting and sense of adventure.

Pursuing the career of your dreams will give you a sense of purpose and will help you live a more fulfilling life. In order to do this, you will need to do some career development planning to help you decide what will give you career success.

While doing some career planning it is essential to ask yourself a few essential questions before you go through the process of career planning development.

Here are some questions to ask:

What would you like? Perhaps you know that you don’t like your current job but you aren’t really sure what type of work you would truly enjoy?

If this is the case, it is time to do a little soul searching. Make a list of all the activities you enjoy doing. Don’t rule anything out. From this list, brainstorm a list of careers attached to these activities.

For example, if you like gardening, potential careers could be becoming a Master Gardener, opening a gardening shop, and writing books and giving classes on gardening. Knowing what you like is an essential step of career planning development.

Why don’t you like your job? Before you do anything drastic, it helps to understand why you don’t like your current job.

This will help you eventually reach career success. Make a list of all the positive and negative aspects of your job. Perhaps the problem isn’t the work you do, but the people you work with or your employer.

If this is the case, then getting a job with another company or moving to another department may lead you on the path of career planning that will have you doing what you love.

What are your dreams? Even if you like your job, perhaps you have dreams.

Considering these dreams is something that can help you measure career success. When you thought about your adult life when you were a child, how did you picture yourself?

What were your dreams then? Make a list of all the dreams you’ve ever had starting with childhood. Can you truly picture yourself doing any of them? If so, then you should seriously consider them when deciding what it is you would really love to do.

Once you ask yourself these questions, the next step toward the process that will help you achieve career success is to do some career development planning. The answers to your questions will form the basis behind your goal setting and action plans.

Set Goals. After you determine what type of job you like and one that will bring you personal career success, the next step is to turn that desire into a goal or set of goals. Career planning is dependent on what exactly you would like to accomplish. Define what it is that you would like to do. A good goal is one that is measurable and specific and also has a time limit. How long will you need to find your new job and redefine your career?

Create an Action Plan. After you set the goals, your next step in career development planning is to create an action plan. What exactly do you need to do to reach your goals? Take your big goal of achieving the career you desire and break it up into a series of smaller steps. Give each step a deadline to complete. Your action plan then is a really a series of smaller goals derived from your ultimate goal.

Get Help. One thing that can help with the career planning development process and further your career success is to get outside help.

Help can come in the form of a life coach, someone who will look over your resume, a trusted friend, a psychologist, a career coach, or just about anyone who will help empower you and give you the tools you need to do the career planning you need to make your ideal life happen.

Release fear. If you want to achieve career success, there is more to the equation than simply going through career development planning.

You need to release any fears you may have that will prevent you from going for your dreams and achieving the life you want. It isn’t fear that holds you back, it is giving into that fear that stifles you. If you want to be a success, career planning development is important, but so is taking action despite how scared you may feel.

I hope that this given you a head start on moving forward and taking the first steps to claiming that fantastic career that is waiting for you.

You deserve it.

All the best.
